Videocittà's Video Art section, curated by Damiana Leoni and Rä di Martino, presents a program on July 10th featuring works by international video artists who approach the festival's theme in diverse ways.
Commissioned by M+ and Art Basel, 3 to 12 Nautical Miles is an animated cinematic tableau composed of hand-painted images. Tracing the maritime routes that connected India, China, and the British Empire, Shahzia Sikander revisits the histories of trade, colonialism, and power that shaped the nineteenth century. The work reflects on the legacies of empire and the global dynamics that continue to influence the present.
