Antony Gormley in #IntheStudio

Antony Gormley offers a moment of reflection from his studio in Norfolk, England.

“So, what are they? These are little drops of oil. Crude oil. Tears of the earth. A drop at a time. I’m just trying to make a matrix, I’m marking time. This is a funny time. Each of these is a cell, each of these is an eye, each of these is an event, and together they make a web. I guess, we’re all in this together. This enforced isolation is, I suppose, the space most artists live in all the time. But it allows us to think about what we really care about. I want to make something that connects to this time, which seems like an opportunity to think about what we really need, and think about our relationship to other things, other lifeforms. And, I hope, reorient ourselves. We have so much to be thankful for. But maybe survival of the fittest is not going to be the way forward.” - #AntonyGormley

#AntonyGormley is widely acclaimed for his sculptures, installations and public artworks that investigate the relationship of the human body to space. His work has developed the potential opened up by sculpture since the 1960s through a critical engagement with both his own body and those of others in a way that confronts fundamental questions of where human being stands in relation to nature and the cosmos. Gormley continually tries to identify the space of art as a place of becoming in which new behaviors, thoughts and feelings can arise.
