Julian Charrière in Towards No Earthly Pole

Through the "Towards No Earthly Pole" exhibition, the MASI pays tribute to the Swiss artist Julian Charrière, one of the most innovative of his generation. The exhibition takes its name from the last eponymous project by Charrière, a film begun in 2017 and produced in some of the most difficult climates in the world, including the Swiss glaciers of the Rhone and Aletsch, Mont Blanc, Iceland and Greenland. The project will be previewed at MASI. Touching the history of science, the development of media culture, the romanticism of exploration and the contemporary ecological crisis, in this exhibition Charrière turns his attention to the links between colonial and environmental history, at the same time offering ample reflections on the pathos of contemporary geographical imaginary.
