Two artists – one subject: Max Slevogt's impressionistic paintings and drawings and Candida Höfer's contemporary photographs illuminate the zoo from different perspectives. While Slevogt dissolves the cage bars in a painterly way, focusing on the animals, Höfer makes architecture and barriers her main subject. The juxtaposition of their works shows how radically different one and the same subject can be interpreted – and, in dialogue with the natural history collection, encourages us to question our own perspective: How does our perception change when we see the same thing through different eyes?
