Sam Moyer - Booth U18

For Unlimited 2018, Sean Kelly is pleased to present a major new work by Sam Moyer, who had her first solo exhibition with the gallery in the fall of 2017. For her participation at Art Basel Unlimited, Moyer has created a work of monumental scale. '92 Electric Blue Explorer is comprised of over thirty-five individual elements including marble, stone and hand painted canvas mounted to MDF. This impressive piece articulates on a grand scale the aesthetic and methodological concerns that inform Moyer’s practice.

Since 2008, Moyer has developed a distinctive language of abstraction that considers questions of value, labor and beauty. Her practice has evolved from its more conceptual and process-based origins to address formal and theoretical issues regarding the construct of painting. In all her productions, issues of scale and space remain critical, Moyer is particularly interested in the way architecture functions in tandem with her objects to create dynamic visual experiences. All these concerns coalesce vividly in Moyer’s most recent paintings, large-scale compositions of variegated and multi-hued sections of repurposed marble, slate and stone combined with fabrics, painted and dyed, in a spectrum of colors.
