For our Art Basel 2020 Online Viewing Room, Sean Kelly Gallery will present a visually dynamic and carefully curated presentation of works by seven of the prominent, internationally recognized artists we represent.

This powerful selection of works, all made in 2020, reflects the strength and diversity of the gallery’s program and focuses on our commitment to a high level of connoisseurship, international dialogue and aesthetic diversity. Featured artists include: Jose Dávila, who creates sculptural installations and photographic works that simultaneously emulate, critique, and pay homage to 20th century avant-garde art and architecture. Dávila’s work investigates how the modernist movement has been translated, appropriated and reinvented; Idris Khan, who has developed a unique body of work in photography, painting and sculpture, engages densely layered imagery to construct a narrative that speaks to the metaphysical collapse of time into single moments; Joseph Kosuth, one of the founding figures of conceptual art. The artist’s fifty-year inquiry into the equivalences between the visual and the linguistic has taken the form of installations organized to create dialogue around arts social and political contexts and explore how art histories are constructed; Sam Moyer, whose practice has evolved from its conceptual and process-based origins to address formal and theoretical issues regarding the construct of painting. In her work, issues of scale and space remain critical, and Moyer is particularly interested in the way architecture functions in tandem with her objects to create dynamic visual experiences; Shahzia Sikander, internationally recognized for her pioneering practice that expands upon the visual repertoire of Indo-Persian miniature painting. Her multidisciplinary work imagines a different present and future, exploring ideas that are at the core of her practice—feminism, colonialism, covert systems of power, and the embrace of otherness; and Janaina Tschäpe, who incorporates themes of aquatic, plant and human life in her work, to suggest dreamlike, abstract landscapes that blur perceptions of illusion and reality
