Sean Kelly is delighted to announce that Jose Dávila will present a new public sculpture, Sense of Place, commissioned by LAND as part of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, an initiative led by the Getty, which seeks to explore the deep artistic connections between Los Angeles and Latin America. This is Dávila’s largest public artwork to date and his first major solo exhibition in Los Angeles.
Sense of Place is a multi-site, large-scale, public sculpture, which will migrate through the diverse landscapes of Los Angeles. The sculpture is an eight-foot square cube comprised of 40 individual concrete forms. Initially installed in West Hollywood Park, the sculpture will be disassembled into its constituent pieces and installed at multiple sites around Los Angeles over the course of the exhibition. In its final iteration, the sculpture will return to its original form as a complete cube and be reinstalled at West Hollywood Park, taking with it the palimpsest of its history in its reunited form.
