The Kunstmuseum Thun will present the first institutional solo exhibition of Los Carpinteros in Switzerland. The exhibition, titled Silence Your Eyes, will feature both major historic works by the artists alongside a group of new works on paper. Silence Your Eyes focuses on Los Carpinteros' characteristic use of representational objects to critically engage politically and culturally restrictive systems with a masterful and elegant sense of irony. By means of disruptions and exaggerations, the installations and drawings combine inherent inconsistencies into something new. This transformation, a process that the artists have described as occurring at times “in the morphology and physicality of an object and at other times in its meaning, interpretation and function,” is underscored by the title Silence Your Eyes. The exhibition will be on view from April 28 through July 8, 2012 and will open on April 27 at 8:30 pm; Silence Your Eyes will be accompanied by a catalogue with text in German, English and Spanish. The exhibition will travel to the Kunstverein Hannover in Germany and will be on view there from December 2012 through February 2013.
