The Sean Kelly Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of a solo exhibition from Julião Sarmento at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga in Spain. The exhibition, titled Julião Sarmento: 2000 – 2010, was organized by the CAC Málaga and will subsequently travel to Es Baluard, Museo d’Art Modern i Contemporari de Palma in Spain. The exhibition opens on December 10, 2010 and will be on view through March 6, 2011.

Over the course of his career, Sarmento has developed a multi-media visual language, combining film, video, sound, painting, sculpture and installations. Sarmento's work often deals with issues of complex interpersonal relationships; it has consistently utilized themes such as psychological interaction, sensuality, voyeurism and transgression. Julião Sarmento: 2000 – 2010 focuses on a selection of works from the last ten years including paintings, drawing, sculptures, videos and collages.

Sarmento has exhibited extensively worldwide since 1979. He has been included in two Documentas and has represented Portugal in two Venice Biennales. His work is represented in public and private collections worldwide such as: The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Musée National d'Art Moderne Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Holland; and the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. Upcoming in 2011 are exhibitions at the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, New York and the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, Ohio.
